Should you wonder why the author is holding a dog... it is in memory of BJ, who died in December, 2008 aged almost 15 years. BJ was the author's “shadow” and was well known throughout most of Queensland and the Northern Territory in areas where they traveled.

About the Author

Former journalist, businessman and entrepreneur, Richard Tomkies has traveled extensively throughout a number of countries, including both Canada and the United States of America, in both of which he resided for some time.

Spending much of the last 39 years in tropical North Queensland, he has visited all the areas written about in his books. Now retired, he lives in the small town of Mt. Surprise in the North West of Queensland writing and, as a free-lance journalist, also contributing articles to newspapers. However, a great deal of his time is spent traveling throughout Queensland, researching material for further books, of which some are due to be published in the near future.

His first book, “Cannibals’ Gold”, was originally written for, and published in the United States as a print-on-demand novel. It soon found favor, however, with Australian readers and consequently it was printed and self-published in this country with the current cover, with sales exceeding all expectations, even coming to the attention of a TV Producer who suggested certain additions to the manuscript. Bearing these in mind, a new edition was rewritten with the additions included and submitted to Zeus Publications, Queensland, who have published Richard's second and third novels, “Valley of the Damned” and “The Ghost of Cape York”, respectively.

Both non-fiction and fiction books are also earmarked for publication in the near future.
